After seeing this new sweater from Barbour with the Union Jack patch on the sleeve, this Double RL situation, and a guy friend who has a military shirt with the French flag on the sleeve, I didn't know how I could live one day longer without ironing on a badge to an item of my own clothing. I had the above California Bear flag badge that I picked up from Thalia Surf Shop in Laguna Beach last year and immediately ironed it on to my Madewell Tomboy workshirt ($88).

Best Made Co. has the best lot of badges I've seen (see below, love the idea of putting them on canvas bags), but would love to know if you know any other good badge resources—I am definitely not done attaching things onto other things.

In the military, these badges are known as morale patches and are often attached by velcro. I saw some on my visit last May to Mystery Ranch in Montana where they make backpacks and tactical gear for the US Military. Legit.

Patches and badges are still used in the Scouts (as far as I know). Scouting stores would sell them, but I find ebay/etsy can be pretty good too.
Ialso recommend hitting up the stores at major national parks - they have great souvenir patches!

I've always been a sucker for patches/badges. as a kid, i pined for the 101st airborne "screaming eagles" patch, but there are so many good ones.

i've picked up a badge everywhere we've gone camping and attached it to my day pack. i get comments on the trail all the time from people asking about various places. love them so much.

I've been totally into badges lately too! I have actually found a bunch at flea markets and antique stores. I like having something to search for! I have found mostly vintage scout badges, and the little ones with just icons on them are so awesome. Have fun with your search!

I've been ever so slightly obsessed with picking up national and state park patches. Good to know they're back in style... I need to get ironing! Love the idea of putting on on a button up sleeve.

Right now I've been collecting badges from the countries I've been visiting and ironing them to my backpack, which is probably the best souvenir idea I've had so far. Those, however, are pretty easy to find and souvenir shops stock up on things like that. But I do second the comments about etsy/thrift stores/flea markets. And those places would definitely have some pretty unique ones to iron on! Now to dabble with the thought of maybe straying away from flags and heading on to something I'd want on some of my clothes....

Just saw the MT flag badge in the Powderhorn (downtown Bozeman( and thought of you! I've always loved them but never had anywhere to put them. Now I'm on a mission to find a good military jacket to patch up. <3!
