UNIFORM | Vintage Stussy

Driving past the Stussy store in L.A. tonight I caught a glimpse of Shawn Stussy's famous hand-scrawled logo, and suddenly I was reminded of a red and black wool Stussy hat that rarely left my skull for the majority of 1992. Stussy had some of the best surfwear marketing of their day. Next time I'm on La Brea, I'm going to go in and see what the brand has evolved into. Or do I just leave it where I left my hat? Did anyone else get caught up in the late 80s/early 90s Stussy craze?

Yes, and I lived in Suburban Washington, DC - not exactly a hotbed of surfing! Stussy means 1992 to me and always will.

I was definitely too young to even know what Stussy was in the early 90's but you've got me interested in Vintage Stussy.. I don't blame you for never taking off a hat like that!

@Becca It's so funny before I even read your comment, I thought, "wait a minute, no, that was more like 1992."

Entering middle school, my back-to-school shopping definitely included some Stussy tees. Stussy tees and Airwalks.

Picture of the hat please!

I know an old raver who represents "Stussy Tribe" to this day.
Funny, my fiance is really into the Mossimo button downs at Target right now. Not the same flair as the original 90's stuff though.

I totally loved Stussy but more for their branding than clothes. In 93, I used to draw the Stussy S all over my binder and papers-granted I was only in 3rd grade, but still....loved it! Now I would buy the "vintage" but not current line.

@alisia Totally drew the S too! The interlocking S chain...a sign of growing up in the 90s!

Stussy in the early 90's yes indeed, in London too. I photographed Joe recently for an essay and he showed me how to rock the up to date version, you can take a look here...

...and, once again, I realised that I prefer boys clothes. Sigh.
