GEAR | Replacement Laces

This may seem obvious and overly simple, but there's no better bang for the buck in my book than a new pair of shoe laces. It's kind of shocking how satisfying it is to re-lace an old pair of shoes with a new pair of laces. Just a few days ago, I threaded in some rawhide laces ($6) and felt like I just bought a new pair of sneaks. I keep extras in my closet for quick footwear pick-me-ups and emergency shoe resuscitations—works on everything from oxfords to Bean Boots to Tretorns.

Other good options beyond rawhide (that you can also borrow from a pair of boat shoes or moccasins): Benjo's boot laces ($8); Danner boot laces ($5) and more Danner laces ($6); Sierra Lace replacements ($10 for red/black).

My boyfriend included a few sets of Benjo's laces in my stocking this year for Christmas - they're fantastic! Now I'm inspired to try them out in my Tretorns. Thank you!

What brand are the old shoes that you picture? The white ones. Are they Vans?
