GEAR | Work Gloves

For another installment of what I like to call, "things I've seen in menswear that I want to incorporate into my life", I'm loving the pairing of ordinary tan work gloves with an otherwise sophisticated outfit. Look at all these gents from The Sartorialist:

I feel like these gloves would look just as chic on a woman. And despite their rugged good looks, leather work gloves (typically made from deerskin, elkskin or goatskin) are obviously highly functional for hunting, driving, riding motorcycles, axe wielding, and other cool things gloves help with. Although there is no glove season in Los Angeles, I do sport them every now and then when carrying firewood inside (a highlight of the California winter). Here are three options I like, all $55 and under, and all made in the U.S.A.

Kaufmann Mercantile Elkskin Suede Gloves ($33); JRC Deerskin Gloves ($49); Filson Goatskin Gloves ($55).

What do you guys think? Work gloves in fashion: yes or no?

Yes! My winter gloves (I live in Germany) are a similar colour; although, they are definitely more winter and less work. But the colour goes so well with denim as well as heavy wool.

And I think that this whole "things I've seen in menswear that I want to incorporate into my life" should officially become a series/column.

So funny, I've recently had gloves like these on my mind thinking I wouldn't mind a pair. As a Michigan dog walker I need really sturdy gloves/mittens that can take a lot of abuse and I thought these would work well. I often prefer mittens as my hands tend to be cold and had been wondering if mittens are made in a similar style, though I haven't done any research yet. I hadn't thought of the gloves as a potential fashion item but the thought is intriguing! Also, I know I had mentioned a while ago I would appreciate it if you could have links open in a separate page when they are clicked and I've noticed you made that change. Thanks so much!!!

can't say i really like the way they look with fancier outfits, but props on finding N.A. made gloves! :)

They are soft, for sure, but I think my "eye" has to get used to them with fashion ensembles. I'm a Wisconsin girl, and these were purely WORK gloves for us!

My pair is too dirty to wear with anything fancy, but still a great investment.
So much great fashion can be stolen from the working class.

Yes! I used to wear these in Maine growing up for working outside and love that they can double as a fashion statement! Seeing as we are buried in snow in Boston, I might have to dig mine out of hiding.

I love work gloves. Though usually i'm sporting them in a back pocket because I work in a model making shop for school and used it a lot in welding. I'm glad you showed some of the brands since they are defiantly comfortable addition to any wardrobe.

I have these, for work (farm) and recommend going to a farm/hardware store for them. I get my nice "taylored" lady gloves for $13.00.

I wear these for workng on roses and brambles on the farm; but deerskin is my favorite for trail riding gloves.
