Gerda Taro is credited for being both the first female war correspondent and the first female correspondent to die in a war. She was killed while covering the Spanish Civil War with her boyfriend Robert Capa.Nahumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08813317975113873190noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7932722121110967476.post-26499930120184991342012-01-31T17:32:00.344-08:002012-01-31T17:32:00.344-08:00Love the jacket!Love the jacket!sweet harvest moonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17694857926050552450noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7932722121110967476.post-54164881595123425292012-01-23T21:04:42.970-08:002012-01-23T21:04:42.970-08:00Love! There's something about doing women's work in men's shoes that made me feel like the best kind of tomboy :)

Great uniform post, as per usual!
X Carly

onedayinny.blogspot.comCarlyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00268375965204860942noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7932722121110967476.post-59364682752888953982012-01-23T18:38:48.245-08:002012-01-23T18:38:48.245-08:00So interesting! What I do know is she is often credited as being the first foreign photographer permitted to take pictures of Soviet Industry, the first female war correspondent (and the first female permitted to work in combat zones) and the first female photographer for LIFE, where her photograph appeared on the first cover. I suppose Miller, another pioneer, came slightly later. It could be one of those things in history where it's blurry and she became the face of female war correspondents, or maybe it is indeed a hard fact.Lizziehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15336669130631289967noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7932722121110967476.post-52355118153672381902012-01-23T12:09:21.838-08:002012-01-23T12:09:21.838-08:00how do you know she was the first? what about Lee...how do you know she was the first? what about Lee Miller? There were a lot of women war correspondents in WW2. None in ww1, however. but i am curious how you chose her as the "first". do tell!Jessica Swanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13298961842038930443noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7932722121110967476.post-82064223764534195682012-01-23T09:20:34.359-08:002012-01-23T09:20:34.359-08:00I have a helmet bag exactly like the one in the pi...I have a helmet bag exactly like the one in the picture (except solid olive), and it's the greatest airplane carry-on ("personal item") ever. It's big enough to fit a normal-size purse, books, magazines, knitting, cameras, etc. It's slightly padded, so things don't get damaged or poke out of the cloth, and the small handle is the perfect size to loop around the handle of a rolling bag.Rachelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06993538750583884075noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7932722121110967476.post-84381487892954299362012-01-23T08:55:22.576-08:002012-01-23T08:55:22.576-08:00A feminist icon, not just a style icon!A feminist icon, not just a style icon!Mamavalveeta03https://www.blogger.com/profile/17079883155916629361noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7932722121110967476.post-47505262972041445782012-01-23T07:28:49.009-08:002012-01-23T07:28:49.009-08:00I love the quote.
