UNIFORM | Double Monk Straps

While observing the influx of fall wardrobe items flooding the internets, and with New York Fashion Week just around the corner, I started thinking about double monks. They've been a staple of the high-end #menswear scene for years (my favorites being of the Sid Mashburn variety), but I've only rarely seen them on girls. But, why not? Oxfords quickly became a standard for women, so  it only seems normal that monks could make the jump. What do you think? To monk or not to monk?

I've noticed this too. Think I need a pair to add to the mannish shoe collection.

Definitely. I bought a black pair last year from Grenson, love them so much thinking about a pair in dark brown or oxblood. Much nicer than brogues.

I think definitely 'yes' to Monk Straps for girls. I have a pair of single Monk Strap Loakes in black, and they're great with jeans, or smarter trousers.

Definitely to monk! I'm going to keep my eyes out for a pair.

Funny, I've been thinking the exact same thing lately. I think they're slowly seeping into our subconscious and this fall they will probably explode and we will see them everywhere. Which I have no problem with because it's such a classic shoe shape, I can totally get behind it. In fact, I think I might just have to get a pair very very soon...

To monk, for sure. I love my oxfords more than any shoe in the world...they make me feel powerful and polished. I don't doubt that monks would do the same.

While I can see why some girls wouldn't want to monk, I'm all for it. They're a refreshing replacement to the tired oxford. Definitely a yes!

I have been searching for some double monk strap shoes in smaller sizes and have been unable to find any at affordable price points. Aside from Grenson, what other companies make a shoe in a women's 6.5/7 or a boys shoe?

Yes to monk! I've been noticing them popping up in various places and definitely like the look. If anyone has any recommendations for an affordable pair, I would love to hear it!

Monks are pretty pricey across the board it seems, but I will look into a women's pair with a decent price tag and see what comes up.

Tried so hard to get a pair of these (Cole Haan, women's double monk strap last fall after the Manrepeller wore an oxblood pair, but alas- they don't ship to Canada. Wonder if they'll reissue for this season. http://www.colehaan.com/colehaan/catalog/product.jsp?catId=100&productId=646891&productGroup=646890

Wholehearted YES to double monks. There's nothing like a menswear shoe on a lady...
To monk or not to monk? Definitely monk. The double monk lends a formality that standard oxfords simply cannot attain. Got a cigar?

i love the style. j. crew has done a few for women over the last few years.. none currently i think but there are probably some of the old styles on ebay. i have a pair of leather tan cap-toe ones that i've worn for years.

Lizzy, what do you think about Clark's "Hamble Park"?
Available in Tan and Black and very affordable.
OK, no High End Style and I'm not quite sure about the Hole pattern.
But I bought a pair of Sandals TNMY wrote about and they are incredibly comfortable.
So, I'm considering...

Sorry. LizzIE of course.

Thanks for this post--the reason you don't see them is that they aren't made in women's sizes! (I don't live in NYC) After looking for decades I found some at Paul Smith in the spring. I love them and get plenty of questions about them when I wear them. think they probably still have them. Please post if you find a good source.

Burberry made double strap monks for women a few seasons back. They were beautiful! I wish they would reissue so I can snatch up another pair. Yes to monks!

i still find it pretty hard to create a nice style around it so i dont use them so much. but they look nice with black skinny jeans and a boxy tee

I will update this to say I noticed a pair of DV by Dolce Vita *single* monk strap shoes the other day - they are at Macy's and on zappos. They looked a little cheap in person but are the most affordable ones I've seen. here they are at zappos: http://www.zappos.com/dv-by-dolce-vita-mello-navy?zfcTest=fcl%3A0
