SCENE | Cañón El Tajo, Mexico

Photo of Marsha Collins in a secluded spot on a serene evening, edging to the top of Cañon El Tajo in Baja Mexico by Greg Epperson, courtesy of Patagonia.

On the heels of Patagonia releasing the lookbook for their Legacy Collection, I dug through some of the Patagonia archives and found this great shot of a harness-less Marsha Collins in Cañon El Tajo, a famous climbing destination south of the border. Nuts and amazing.

P.S. Patagonia still makes those same shorts ($49) pretty much the same as they always have.

***Update*** Check out these catalog photos from Patagonia's first women's line that debuted in 1976/1977!

To me, this is art. Hot. Bad ass. Inspirational. But the boobs, don't they get hurt by the sun? The mountain? And because a dude is taking the pic and shilling for a company, does that make it exploitative or not? So many questions - and that's what a great post is made of. :)

@Christina I totally agree! Thank you for your comment. The photo was taken in 1988 and I have to wonder about the art direction. Was it her choice? The photographers? It made me scratch my head so I wanted to share it here.

I sorta feel that, judging by where she is and what she's doing, I don't see how you could badger someone into doing that? It's not like she's in a studio.
As a rock climber, I'm more concerned about how high she is with no protection! But it was the 80s eh?!

I agree with both the comments- I mean boobs on rock, ouch. But also, head scratching art direction too! I'm amazed by the weird freedom it embodies- no harness, no bra, no top. It is very visceral. Nice one!

I totally missed the boobs and am entranced by the shorts. I always see those shorts on the coolest girls jogging around town and now I know where to get them.
That's what I love about TBS, it's like I'm getting tips from a cool friend not something someone got paid to advertise to me.
Railroad blue shorts, here I come.

Ouch! @Christina Cupo raises some really great questions. I'll ponder it...

And I had that same hairdo from the catalog (Farrah bangs, lots of layers...)#never again

I did not even notice that she was topless at first. What is wrong with me?!?!

The old adds where def. more interesting. YC enjoys this kind of stuff, but the HR dept. is a little bit bigger now!

If she fall off we could see some boob shaking, and a broken skull

Climbing is SO rad. I climb twice a week and I don't think I'll ever be able to climb a bare face like that.

Sexy! Based on the fact that she has no tan lines, I'd guess she did not just strip for that shoot, or at the photographer's request. (I hope this is true.)

And the shorts... sweet. I like them.

This picture is wonderful. The possible stories behind it are just as intriguing! Her skin is such an interesting color- like a red-orange rock face. Thank you for sharing, this is so cool.
