GEAR | Farrell & Co. Leathergoods

I read somewhere authoritative the other day that the new generation of consumers wants less to do with mass produced goods than ever before. And while people have opined this notion before, I always feel like it's something I just want to believe that probably isn't true outside our own little aesthetic bubbles. But maybe I'm wrong because small artisans just keep popping up, turning out quality product, and they're in no short supply. More proof of that is Farrell & Co. out of Rockland, Maine. Meg Farrell, a photographer and graduate of Parsons, and Maine farmer started her one-woman operation after craving a nice leather wallet with not a ton of immediate options available in mid-coast Maine. So she went out and did it, the sourcing, the cutting, the dying, the designing, the sewing; and it turned out pretty damn well. Meg also just launched a Kickstarter page to try and create canvas and leather totes, so while I hope she doesn't get crazy big, I hope she continues to grow and enjoy the fruits of her labor. Farrell & Company bags are made-to-order, so they take a few weeks on average, but I'm sure they're worth the wait.
