UNIFORM | Block Shop Scarves

First the bad news: The new company Block Shop is already sold out of every scarf currently on offer. Now the great news: They'll be back with more of everything next month. Why I love them: Block Shop is an Indian textile company founded by sisters Lily and Hopie Stockman (one's an MFA and one's an MBA) and works with the Chhipa family of master printers based in Bagru, India, who have been hand block printing with natural dyes for over 350 years. Block Shop textiles are printed one at a time with carved wooden blocks and non-toxic vegetable dyes on the finest Indian silk-cotton blend. You can sign up for their newsletter for an email alert when the new batch comes in—I just did.

Those scarves are absolutely gorgeous. A little too expensive for me right now - but beautiful nonetheless.

Lizzie! This is Lily from Block Shop; was BEYOND delighted to find you'd written about our little company, and can't wait until we're restocked after such a blitz this past month!

You probably don't remember this, but when you first started Tomboy Style I sent you a link to some marvelous 60s Woolmark advertisements and a little story about my grandmother, Lois Russell, a great equestrian and nationally-ranked race car rally-driver. She was a true tomboy; my mom remembers coming home from school as a child and my grandmother was on the roof cutting a hole for the new wood-burning stove she'd installed after years of enduring a freezing kitchen. So, coming full-circle, my grandmother is very much alive in the spirit of adventure and beautiful craftsmanship that is the the soul of Block Shop.

How about that?! Thought you'd enjoy knowing the connection. Thanks for the lovely post about us, and happy New Year from Block Shop!

These are really nice, I thought they were vintage at first glance. Also love how they use non-toxic vegetable dyes, that makes me happy!
