I took it down because many commenters were offended by it. My intent was to send a message that I hoped everyone stayed safe, but it wasn't received that way by everyone.

I just wanted to let you know that I just saw the 'Stay Safe East Coast' post and your additional post apologizing for it - it still comes up in my Google Reader feed - and I just wanted to say that I don't think it was in bad taste at all... you weren't commercializing their plight or taking it lightly. Part of your job on this blog is to show off Tomboy Style et al, and from my fairly longterm-now readership I've seen that you often post the objects and pieces you love and that you would buy if you were able to idealize the gear and clothes for certain situations and events... an electronic stylist if you will, filling your pages with a vision of what the world would look like at its best in every situation according the world you dream up in your head -- hence your cool little collection of rain/storm gear. I never would have thought to take it as a super serious or mocking post (I don't know what the disparaging comments complained about) so I just wanted to let you know that at least for me, and I'm sure many of your other readers, we completely got your point! Cheers.

Thank you so much for saying that, it means a lot.

I have gotten some emails saying they liked the post as well and I shouldn't have removed it. I wish now I didn't take it down becuase I agree that all I wanted to do was communicate a positive message. I obviously don't find hurricanes or natural disasters funny nor was I trying to trivialize it. I don't understand why it was received that way. But, when someone said, "This is repugnant, people are dying." I questioned my judgement.

You live, you learn. I've been blogging in some capacity since 2006, yet crazy negative commenters can still get under my skin! I should be used to it by now. :)

Anyway, thank you, so much.

Love me some polka dots!

On a side note:
Stay Safe East Coast was a good post and I, for one, did not think it was in bad taste. I agree that you were trying to communicate a positive message. It's a shame people were offended by it (thin skinned much?) Please don't be too hard on yourself!
