ICON | Ricky Lauren

Photo of Ricky and Ralph Lauren walking on the beach in Amagansett, Long Island, 1977 by Les Goldberg.

"I love to shop with Ricky. Not long after we met, we went to an old riding apparel store and I bought her a boy's tweed hacking jacket. It fit her beautifully, and everyone asked about it. That's when I decided to do women's clothes. I liked her style."—Ralph Lauren in an excerpt from Ralph Lauren, 2007.

I keep coming back to this photo as possibly the best visual way to describe how I define tomboy style. There is something so profound yet incredibly simple about Ricky Lauren. —LGM

I love how his hand is grabbing her shirt at the waste, as if to say "not letting this one go ever."

Hers is a beauty that is not contrived or bought, but rather innate and simple. Love their connection and aesthetic.

I just found your site and it is like a breath of fresh air. Keep up the good work.

While I think Ricky Lauren was a great choice, I can't get over how hilarious Ralph's outfit is. It's as if that morning he thought to himself "I'll wear my cut-off khakis and the largest, mirroredest pair of sunglasses I can find. Oh, and I may be getting in the water, so I'd better thrown on my green down vest."

Agreed! I almost said the same thing. Hilarious.
